The Verdigris Ensemble has a bold vision: to transform the world through the alchemy of stories and the power of the human voice. Join the critically acclaimed Dallas choral ensemble as they perform Betty's Notebook by Nicholas Reeves: a piece for choir and fixed media that tells the story of Betty Klenck hearing Amelia Erhart's distress calls. Betty wrote her observations, thoughts, and feelings in a notebook. Betty's Notebook is a controversial piece of evidence but very compelling.
Verdigris Ensemble commissioned and premiered this piece in their 2018-19 season. During the lockdown in 2020, Verdigris revisited the work with Nick Reeves and recorded it, turning it into the first programmable classical music NFT on the blockchain.
The performance version of the piece is a "conductors cut" of the variations from the recording session. Electronics include audio clips from an interview with Betty Klenck, parts of five original jazz standards, and more.
