In March 2022, First Presbyterian Church of Dallas launched Wood Street Worship, a new worshipping community that gathers in Byrd Hall on Sunday mornings. Since the inception and launch of Wood Street, we’ve welcomed countless new faces to our campus, we’ve completed a major renovation of Byrd Hall, and we’ve experienced God’s presence in the words and sounds of Bob Dylan, Brandi Carlile, and Kacey Musgraves, to name a few.
Today, we’re excited to announce another milestone for Wood Street Worship and the FPC Dallas community: Sam Allen will be joining our team as our new Wood Street Worship Music Director and will serve the greater FPC Dallas campus as our AV Coordinator.
Sam has served in church music ministry for many years, most recently as the worship pastor at Lake Cities Community Church in Rowlett, TX. In addition to music, Sam has led their recovery ministry and all things media. He and his wife Brooke are high school sweethearts, DFW area natives, and parents to Ezra, Asher, and (soon to be) Judah.
Sam has been creating music in some capacity for most of his life and holds a Commercial Music degree from Belmont University in Nashville, TN. Since graduation, he has had the opportunity to teach, tour, record, produce, and write music for both the church and other artists. His music and ministry passions include songwriting, helping others to achieve their full potential, and finding new ways to communicate old truths about God.
When he's not making music, you might find Sam anticipating new Star Wars content, pulling his sons on their bike trailer, or cooking something weird.
When asked what is most exciting about the Wood Street Worship + FPC Dallas communities, Sam responded:
“I am thrilled to be joining a community that gives everyone the opportunity to come and experience the redeeming and transforming love of God. As Wood Street Worship develops, I look forward to coming alongside the groundwork that has been laid to develop a thriving culture of creativity that uses music to unearth the glimpses of Christ that are all around us. Brooke and I can't wait to meet the community at FPC Dallas and to play a part in what God has clearly been doing through this church for many years.”
Sam described his call to FPC Dallas in this way:
“Over the past several months, God has begun to stir a holy discontentment in my heart. Coming out of a ministry position where I am comfortable and well loved, I believe that God is asking us to step into an environment where hard questions are allowed and diversity is experienced firsthand. We pray that our gifts and perspectives will be valuable to the people of FPC Dallas and fully expect to be challenged to more intentionally walk out the way of Jesus as we grow with this community.”
We believe that Sam is uniquely qualified and called to serve in this new position at this particular time. Sam will plan, lead, and direct music teams in Wood Street Worship and will oversee audio/visual production for worship and events across our campus. We are excited to welcome Sam and his family to our community, beginning with his first day in office on Tuesday, June 21, and his first Sunday in worship on June 26.
