Heads up: Our annual campaign officially kicked off Sunday in worship. Evidence came quick that some of you weren't waiting for the GO! signal when online commitments began arriving early last week. This is the first of many thanks you'll hear from me in the coming weeks.
This year's theme, Wherever You Go, is inspired by the extraordinary promise Ruth made to her mother-in-law Naomi with these words: "Where you go, I will go; where you lodge, I will lodge" (Ruth 1:16). Ruth made the promise despite Naomi's insistence that Ruth cut her loose and start a new life.
The theme picked itself. The last two years have tested our willingness to make promises. To survive we learned to maintain a healthy level of skepticism about our own predictions for what tomorrow would bring. We learned to keep our options open and extend grace to each other when the unreliability of life forced the cancellation or postponement of commitments we desperately hoped to keep.
But heard throughout the story of our last two years together is also the steady sound of Ruths among us, you included, whispering to each other, "Wherever you go, wherever you are, whatever you need, count on me."
God is up to something at the First Presbyterian Church of Dallas. Strengthened by the sound of so many Ruths keeping their promise to stick together, we will respond to the call of the coming year with the courage and confidence of a church that sees what's on the other side.
Will you come with us?
The long-promised transformation of our neighborhood on the southern edge of downtown is underway. In 2022, a new city park will open across the street, a 16 story apartment building for 450 new neighbors will be erected right next door, and plans for both our 508 and 515 Park Avenue projects encompassing The Stewpot will advance in noticeable ways. Wood Street Worship and a new Home Group ministry will launch, new faith formation programs introduced this fall will be humming, and our existing programs for all ages will be strengthened by the support of a full program staff. God willing, the growth will be both deep and wide.
Will you come with us? Our campaign goal is $1.7 million. Read the Annual Campaign brochure to see more about how God has been at work through our church family.
